Week one. First thoughts

It's been a busy first week as all weeks are in schools. Today is Wednesday and I don't think much has been achieved except for a number of to do lists. However: Meet with the withdrawal group on Monday Meet with class teachers to finalise timetable and expectations Meet with Maths team to update timetable, groups and class teacher meetings Meet with the ALiM mentor on the first Monday of term during lunchtime. Reflections: Yesterday I was out of school on ELA course, so that's one day without contact and today there was speech finals - so another day gone. The withdrawal group is very keen. We set up books and looked very briefly at stage 4 goals - need to come back to these The class teachers were very positive about the programme but had some questions regarding assessment. One teacher felt that the students results were below where she though they were. Added one more students to test but looking at the results on MUSAC she is well below so will not be a candidate. However, it won't take long to assess so will do that by the end of the week. The maths team was very supportive and will need to touch base regularly - next job mentioned is a letter home to parents. Some good ideas regarding home/school partnerships from ELA yesterday that I will refer to. It was a surprise to see the mentor so early in the intervention. Felt there was a sense of judgement not support. She mentioned (again) how busy she was with little regard to my own commitments. No positive feedback received. Asked me to log GLASS data ASAP which I will do tomorrow. She also questioned my research question saying it was not measurable. Measurability was not mentioned at the conference and she was not there for its entirety so maybe she had got different messages from other conferences. She also had the dates wrong wrong for the cluster meeting which was surprising. She is back in three weeks to observe me teaching. Not looking forward to that. I discussed with her my interest in approaching this through an ESOL lens and I did not feel that this was well received. I hope that this will not be the approach for the rest of the term. After I have been supported so well in other programmes I have been involved in I almost feel she needs a mentor in mentoring. To do: write up research question finish e-mail students update Ako Hiko site tighten planning letter/meeting with parents log GLOSS data
